Our Board

Our board of trustees is responsible for the governance of the Debt Relief Foundation (DRF). The board carries out its responsibilities according to the DRF trust deed, and consists of independent trustees with a wide range of sector experience.

The primary responsibilities of our board include:

  • ensuring preparation of the annual and half-year financial statements

  • establishing the long-term goals of DRF and strategic plans to achieve those goals

  • reviewing and adopting annual budgets for the financial performance of DRF and monitoring results on a monthly basis

  • managing risk by ensuring that DRF has implemented adequate systems of internal controls together with appropriate monitoring of compliance activities, and

  • working with management to create organisational value

Board Committees

The board has three committees:

  1. Finance and Audit Committee (FAC)

  2. Risk and Governance Committee (RAG)

  3. Fundraising Committee

Other committees are formed for specific purposes and disbanded as required.

Risk Management

The board constantly monitors the operational and financial aspects of DRF’s activities and, through the Finance and Audit Committee, considers recommendations and advice from external and internal auditors and advisers on the risks DRF faces.

The board also investigates ways of enhancing existing risk management strategies, including setting of duties, the employment and training of personnel and, in conjunction with FAC , the scope and work programme of internal auditors.

Code of Conduct

As part of the board’s commitment to the highest standards of behaviour and accountability, DRF has a code of conduct to guide the board, management and employees in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. The code covers such matters as:

  • responsibilities to members

  • relations with clients and suppliers

  • employment practices, and

  • responsibilities to the community
